About
With an ethos grounded in movement, wellness, and growth, The Unrooted Studio stands as nothing short of a sanctuary for those seeking guidance, community, and support on their quest for wellness and self-connection.
Nestled in the Flamborough-area hamlet of Troy, to call this well-being haven’s setting picturesque would be an understatement: think tree-lined driveway, sun-splashed horse paddock, rolling country scenes on the horizon, and a warmly-appointed barn that welcomes participants from across the greater Hamilton area for a wide range of nurturing classes and specialty events.
The Unrooted Studio is dedicated to offering an all-encompassing approach to wellness, and excels in creating a supportive, non-judgmental environment where those of all skill levels and familiarity can explore their own unique expressions of movement and stillness. The instructors, including Sakalya Yoga Teacher Chloe Coleman, Yoga Teacher Johanna Coleman, and Pilates Coach Alex Butler, bring a wealth of experience and a deep understanding of the challenges faced by their clients — especially those feeling drained by the many demands of daily life.
Their approach is rooted in the belief that many people today feel “unrooted” — disconnected from themselves, others, and the world around them. With that, the Studio’s mission is to help guide each attendee to grow their own roots, in their own respective ways, fostering a deep sense of authenticity and connection.
The Unrooted Studio offers a variety of classes and events to suit different needs and interests, including Intro to Yoga, Gentle Flow & Breathwork, Vinyasa, Hatha, and Pilates — plus meditation sessions around the New Moon and Full Moon, and more.
For those grappling with various presentations of discomfort, The Unrooted Studio’s Sakalya Yoga and Meditation classes offer a specialty path of support; a Sanskrit word meaning “holistic,” Sakalya perfectly embodies the Studio’s philosophy of interconnectedness and wholeness. This integrated practice combines various branches of yoga to help create a powerful toolbox for physical, mental, and spiritual well-being. The practice helps remove energetic blocks, increase vitality, and balance the nervous system.
A Sakalya Yoga session at The Unrooted Studio provides an inward journey that incorporates a range of techniques designed to address the unique needs of each individual, and includes gentle Asana (yoga postures) to help ease physical discomfort and increase flexibility, meditation techniques to help quiet the mind and reduce stress, Mudra (finger postures) as subtle energy work to promote healing and strength, Mantra sound practices to help soothe the nervous system, and Kriya, which are specific actions to help release energy blockages and balance the body.
The Unrooted Studio recognizes the importance of community in the healing and well-being process; small class sizes ensure personalized attention and foster a sense of supportive connection among participants. Additionally, the Studio also offers specialty events that delve deeper into specific aspects of wellness.
At The Unrooted Studio, the quest to wellness and self-care is seen as a personal exploration — one that ebbs, flows, and continues to grow. Whether you’re looking to ease physical discomfort, find a sense of inner balance, or simply create time and space for self-care in a stunning setting, this welcoming studio offers a supportive path forward.
