Last month, during one of those uncannily warm, sunny winter days sweeping southern Ontario lately, I went to a pop-up wellness market at TERRA Greenhouse to explore. Among the many amazing businesses gathered was Waterdown Village Chiropractic & Wellness Group, where I met Meghan Clarke — a Registered Holistic Nutritionist and Registered Bioenergetics practitioner who specializes in BIE.
BIE (Bioenergetic Intolerance Elimination) was a relatively new modality to me, but the quick demo results sparked my curiosity. I didn’t fully understand it at first, but immediately knew I wanted to learn more about it. (And we will dive more into it here on the site soon!)
Here’s why: my name is Tamara and, in addition to being the Editor at Methods of Care, I also navigate the onslaught of challenges that come with managing chronic health hurdles like so, so many of us. It has been opportune chances like this, to learn more about niche modalities that can possibly help an array of health hurdles, that are a perfect example of why we set out to create this website.
After all, driving home that day, I thought back to a much different winter’s day not long ago: grey outside, and bitterly cold, the weather had mirrored my absolute gloom facing yet another day wrangling my fibromyalgia and its fallout.
At the time, after years of dealing with feelings of soreness, exhaustion, and operating at max capacity at that point, I was once again fed up, and once again flipped open my laptop in search of something — anything — that could offer relief.
“I feel like I’m treading molasses,” I used to say…
On that day’s rabbit hole of searching, I stumbled across a type of treatment* I had also never really heard of, let alone understood, at the time. But, I’m so grateful I did; it turned out to be a missing puzzle piece to my wellness recipe and including it in my overall care plan changed the trajectory of my well-being.
In addition, so many of the specialist practitioners set to be featured across Methods of Care have also been inspired by their own health hurdles and treatment outcomes to pursue careers in their respective fields.
This is the foundational hope behind Methods of Care, Canada’s new wellness blog and local directory dedicated to sourcing relief from chronic pain, fatigue, stress, and burnout.
We understand first-hand how the search for supportive services can feel like navigating a maze without a compass — often full of dead ends and false starts — and that it’s hard to search for services we may not know exist or considered within this context, let alone how they can help.
That’s why, at Methods of Care, we’ll be shining light on the incredible array of resources and services that may be unfamiliar, untried, or worth revisiting — from the most ancient of practices all the way to cutting-edge developments in technology and research.
So! Welcome to Methods of Care, a place where your wellness journey can explore new paths, from the tried-and-true to the yet-to-be-explored. No matter where you are on your quest for well-being, we look forward to introducing you to local specialists, supports, resources, and information in hopes of supporting and easing your search for meaningful relief.
Warm regards,
Tamara
Editor, Methods of Care
*Ok, so — the new-to-me treatment I referenced was somatic experiencing — a modality that helps support nervous system regulation, most notably around PTSD and C-PTSD. It helped round out my care plan that included, but was not limited to, consistent psychotherapy and EMDR, yoga nidra, osteopathy, weights instead of cardio, and lucking out with (no, questing until I found) the most incredibly helpful, validating health and care providers that turned into my lighthouses — plus having an incredibly understanding, supportive circle of people around.
The reason I asterisked it is that everyone’s recipe or puzzle of care is unique to them, and everyone’s ideal state of well-being is deeply personal and subjective. Care plans work best when they’re personalized to each individual’s preferences, needs, and responsiveness — a modality that helps for one may not help for all!
So! While I will never (ever) gatekeep what helps in my circumstance, which holds many complicated factors and nuances, I also never (ever) want to suggest that what works for me should or would work for everyone. This is why Methods of Care exists — to offer insights and supportive resources you can filter and tailor through your own lens!
