About
Living with back aches, headaches, sore shoulders, and other musculoskeletal concerns can feel like an overwhelming challenge, but certified Alexander Technique practitioner Christel Herick is dedicated to helping individuals find relief and reclaim their lives. As the founder of Forward and Up, Christel can help your body and nervous system return to ease thanks to this gentle and effective technique.
Most popular among artists and those prone to repetitive strain injuries while at work, this century-proven method helps individuals learn to move their bodies more efficiently and freely, with Christel’s most common feedback sharing how clients feel relief from a variety of pain, a greater sense of lightness, and a more positive outlook overall.
The Alexander Technique focuses on nervous system regulation and has been shown to be effective for a variety of concerns. Developed by Friedrich Matthias Alexander in the early 20th century, the modality is a precise system of movements and mindfulness. By re-educating the body to move as intended, it helps eliminate harmful holding patterns — especially around reducing muscle tension and stress and increasing energy.
Think of the Alexander Technique as what it’s often referred to as: an “owners manual” for the human body. This is among the reasons practitioners like Christel refer to appointments as lessons, as clients take on a learning role on how to help maintain the Technique at home.
Based in Guelph, Ontario, Christel’s journey with the Alexander Technique began after experiencing back problems herself. With a background as a nurse, she encountered persistent back pain due to the demands of the role. Later, when she pursued a career in pottery, the same issues resurfaced; it was then that she discovered the modality, which proved to be the most effective solution for her pain.
In addition to her expertise in the Alexander Technique, Christel is also trained in Therapeutic Touch, Reiki, and is a certified ZPoint practitioner. Her diverse skill set and insights around the nervous system and body’s needs allow her to offer a holistic and carefully considered approach to her client’s needs, addressing both physical and emotional well-being.
Whether you struggle with strain, stress, or tension, Christel’s expertise can help make the world of difference. By guiding clients to move as their bodies were naturally designed to, she helps alleviate pain and improve overall well-being and balance. The technique is best experienced first-hand, and Christel’s compassionate and knowledgeable guidance ensures that clients feel supported throughout their care.
