About
The Down Dog series is not a new set of apps, but when we tell you it's genuinely and truly one of our top favourite well-being apps — possibly *the* favourite — we mean it.
Down Dog is the kind of tool set that quietly does everything right and, once you start using it, you'll wonder how you ever managed without it.
First up, is the variety.
In the Down Dog collection of apps, there are:
• Yoga
• Pilates
• Meditation
• Barre
• HIIT
• Prenatal Yoga
One membership gets you access to all of them, each downloadable separately for your devices or accessible from your computer with the same sign-in credentials.
Within yoga alone, on days when aches are high or energy is low, we toggle to their speciality collection of yoga sessions that include restorative, somatic, wake-up, gentle, standing stretch, chair yoga, and yoga nidra.
Beyond these, you'll also find the standard Vinyasa, Yin, Hatha, and Ashtanga flows, alongside yoga + Pilates, post-workout stretch, strength flow, sun salutations, flexibility flow, and cardio flow.
As another example, for HIIT workouts, you can choose from no equipment, dumbbells, a chair, or resistance bands, and toggle the level of aerobic and cardio intensity depending on how you’re feeling. Meditation options include guided, sleep, guided with breathing, sleep with breathing, guided breathing, walking, and sleep stories, with focus areas for calming, energy, or clarity. Pilates, barre, prenatal yoga… Also all with exceptional options and variety.
What makes Down Dog exceptional — like, truly and genuinely exceptional for anyone struggling with chronic pain, fatigue, stress, or burnout — is its complete customization.
Each time you open the app, not only can you choose your level and the session’s duration, but you can also adjust transition speeds, warm up and cool down, the instructor's voice, how much or little instruction you'd like, the background music, and more.
Further, you can skip or thumbs-down certain exercises to exclude them, or favourite specific moves to ensure they're woven into future sessions. The app generates new sequences from its library every new session you do to keep things interesting and engaging, but you can also save favourite sessions if you want to return to them, or download them to do offline.
Here's what we love most: no matter how you feel that day, or how long you feel up for moving or meditating, Down Dog meets you where you are with a completely customizable experience that is not only pleasant and approachable in its setup, but also in its delivery.
For us personally, we love that it’s not laden with a harsh gym-vibe aggression that’s all about “crushing it” or “REPS ‘TILL FAILURE”... While that works well to pump many people up towards movement, we just find on days where pain and fatigue are winning the wrestle, Down Dogg comes in as a gentler, more supportive, adaptable, and approachable option.
It's also extremely affordable by comparison to other fitness and well-being apps on the market, and its value far exceeds its price point. Especially since the company works hard to make the apps as accessible as possible to those in need. (As of January 2026, they’ve provided free Down Dog app access to more than 1+ million students through schools, free access to over 16+ countries that are underserved and experience high stress conditions, and over 170,000+ years worth of free memberships through their community affordability programs. They are also known to run specials to support first responders and teachers, as well.)
This is the app we return to again and again, and the one we can’t recommend highly enough — for everyone, but especially for anyone navigating chronic pain, fatigue, stress, or burnout who need movement and mindfulness practices that adapt to fluctuating capacity.
